Volunteering at User Experience 2008
Last November I attended the User Experience 2008 conference in Amsterdam. This conference is organised by the Jacob Nielsens company, the NN/g (Nielsen & Norman Group). I heard about this conference via Nielsens email newsletter. Even better, they were looking for student volunteers to help out with the conference. Of course I immediately volunteered.
My employer was willing to cover my expenses (traveling and hotel costs) and thus I was able to attend the conference for two days. I attended the Research Update and the Agile Programming workshop. I really liked both workshops, although I found the Research Update workshop the most interesting. I also met some people from the NNGroup, including Hoa Loranger, Chris Nodder and of course Jacob Nielsen himself.
I really had a great time, discussing the workshops with the other attendees and of course enjoying the city of Amsterdam. It was nice meeting the people behind books such as Prioritizing Web Usability. I definitely can recommend it, if you can afford the fees.
PS. Don’t forget to check out Chris Nodder’s Usability 4 Evil web site.
